It’s that time of year again when Louisville comes alive with the running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 2. The race is known in the United States as “The fastest two minutes in sports” for its duration and is also called “The Run for the Roses” for the blanket of roses draped over the winner. It’s the first leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and is followed by the Preakness Stakes in Maryland, then the Belmont Stakes in New York.
If you are going to be in Louisville, don’t forget to stop by the Kentucky Derby WineFest on April 28th and 29th at the overlook on the Waterfront. Elk Creek Vineyards will be one of the wineries showcased with their award winning wines. You don’t want to miss this!
If you can’t make it to Louisville for the Derby, you’re in luck! Elk Creek Vineyard is throwing a “Derby Party” on May 2nd, from 4-9pm. Stop by for a great dinner of pulled pork barbeque with Elk Creek’s own barbeque sauce, baked beans, cole slaw and mini corn-on-the-cobs. It’s southern down-home cooking at its best! Plus you don’t have to worry about missing the big race! There will be 6 flat screen tv’s broadcasting the race making you feel as if you were right there in on the action!
