A Marinara Sauce To Make Us Proud – Kentucky Proud!

March 23rd, 2009

For all you Italian food lovers out there, you don’t want to miss this month’s “Elk Creek Wine Dinner” Saturday, March 28th.  The man of the hour, or should I say “sauce” of the hour is Elk Creek’s own home-grown and Kentucky Proud Marinara Sauce!  You’ll get a taste of each sauce, one a rich taste with a hint of sweetness flavored with Sangiovese wine and the other a full-bodied sauce with a hint of ripe berry sweetness flavored with their very own Cabernet.

You’ll dine on the mezzanine level of the gallery surrounded by beautiful original artwork by local artists.  Between 5:30 – 5:45pm you will be able to browse the winery and enjoy barrel tasting to start off the night.  Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and what an amazing dinner it will be - Tomato Burschetta, Caesar Salad, Chicken Parmesan, Tuscan Pasta and to end it on a perfect note,  Tiramisu for dessert.  Dinner will be prepared by Elk Creek’s very own in-house chef, Rachel DuFour.

This is one dinner you don’t want to be late for!

Help Us Uncork A Cure!

March 2nd, 2009

I love when companies come together for the greater good.  Elk Creek Vineyards and Kroger are doing just that!  Uncorking a Cure is a first year non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness and prevention of Colorectal Cancer in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Colorectal cancer, also known as colon cancer or large bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. When separated out on its own line, the impact of colorectal cancer is staggering.

  • Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer.
  • One person is diagnosed with colorectal cancer every four minutes in the U.S.
  • An estimated 148,810 people in the United States will be diagnosed in 2009.
  • Colorectal cancer affects more people annually than breast cancer and AIDS combined.
  • It is equally common in men and women.

Despite those grim statistics, colorectal cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers, because it develops from polyps that can be removed before they become cancerous. Uncorking A Cure, a first-year foundation, was created to promote colorectal cancer awareness and prevention by building partnerships such as The Blue Ribbon Initiative.

The Blue Ribbon Initiative Kickoff Fundraiser will be held at Elk Creek Vineyards this Saturday March 7, 2009 from 12:00pm – 7:00pm.  There will be Gallery and Estate wine tasting along with a unique sampling of food pairings created by Kroger Chefs.  It’s an all day event that you don’t want to miss!

Also mark every Wednesday and Thursday in your calendars for the month of March.  This is when various Kroger locations will be having The Blue Ribbon Initiative Wine Tasting Series from 4 -6pm with proceeds to benefit Uncorking A Cure.  Believe me once you get a taste of these wonderful Elk Creek Vineyard Wines you’ll be buying bottles for yourself and your friends!  Go to Uncorking a Cure for all the information you’ll need for both of these wonderful events!
